A pair of French neo-classical gueridons from the “Grand Tour” era of the 18th century, when gentlemen capped their educations with an extended visit to the major sights of Europe, particularly Rome. Micromosaics, created by piecing together pieces of colored glass threads to create intricately detailed scenes, were popular Grand Tour souvenirs reflecting the sophistication and refinement of the traveler, and are still highly prized today. Medallions depicting the Colosseum are inlaid to the tops of these gilt-bronze-mounted tables, each raised on three slender double-column supports, with a tripartite undershelf and splayed sabot-clad feet.
Condition: Good. Minor wear consistent with age and use.
