Chinese Reception Benches

Pair of rare reception benches from Beijing. Made from elm, these benches were originally used for guests before they were welcomed by the owner of the house; usually found in front of the office. They are usually made out of black and cinnabar lacquer, so raw, unfinished wood is a rare sight.
